WATER HYGIENE

HOT WATER SYSTEMS & CALORIFIERS

Our experienced hygiene specialists carry out calorifier inspections of the internal surfaces. Calorifiers are prone to scale and debris build up due to the closed nature of their design, this can be a breeding ground for bacteria including legionella.

WATER TANKS

Water tanks must be maintained to a ‘reasonable condition’. Tank refurbishment is one way to do this. This includes the inspection and cleaning of water tanks as well as GRP coating and painting as well as replacement. This ensures your water tank is correctly sized and complies with regulations.

WATER SOFTENERS

Hard water can create several problems that you’re probably not even aware of including clogged pipes, providing nutrients for bacteria. A well maintained water softener can increase the efficiency of hot water generators and assist in reducing your carbon footprint.

What Is Legionella?

A lot of water hygiene services talk about Legionella bacteria, but what exactly is it? And how can you protect your water systems from it?

Legionella is a type of bacteria that is most commonly found where water temperatures are between 20-45°C. This bacteria can cause Legionnaires disease which can be a fatal type of pneumonia.

Legionnaires’ diseases pose a specific risk to the elderly and those with pre-existing medical conditions. This disease is contracted through airborne droplets which is why it is crucial that water systems are well maintained.

Under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974), Legionella Risk Assessments are a legal requirement. The Duty Holder has a duty of care to anyone in the building as well as a legal obligation. This risk assessment should be carried out by a water hygiene specialist to ensure compliance.
